Meet the Maker
MY NAME IS FRANCES.
I’m the owner and maker behind LeFrances Handmade Crafts & Fibre Art. I’m a knitter, crocheter, and indie yarn dyer.
My interest in yarn/crafting in general started when I was around the age of nine. A sweet lady, whom I do not remember at all, taught me how to crochet while I was staying in a guardian's home (Don’t be sad! I’ve come a long way!).
I don’t remember making anything spectacular until 2015, when my coworker was knitting alllll the things! I was so intrigued, so I started crocheting again. Turns out, she did not know how to crochet and I did not know how to knit (two needles with no hook?! Wut?). Long story short, we taught each other and I began making all the things too.
Fast forward to 2018, when I randomly met a beautiful woman by the name of Katie (@fromthemilkparlor via Instagram) through a social media event called, “GetYourFiberWishesGranted.” I expressed some interest in learning how to dye yarn but did not know the first step in getting started.
Sweet Katie sent me a few dye bottles and 3 mini skeins of yarn to start with! I mean, how sweet is that?! She was actually the first maker I introduced as part of my #makermondays series.
Maker Mondays is an online scavenger hunt that is held the first Monday of each month. The hunt introduces a new maker to the community in a fun and interactive way. In addition to learning about the maker of the month, participants will have two chances to win a handmade item!
Maker Mondays was created with the hopes of connecting people in a way that disrupts the social media fog and actually provides knowledge and interaction within our beautiful crafting community. While social media platforms give us the opportunity to connect in ways that were not available before, they take away from true interaction. The Maker Mondays series seeks to remedy this by promoting makers and small businesses in a way that is organic, fun, and beneficial
Maker Mondays will resume soon!
